3. Atenolol Study: Inclusion Criteria

They included VA patient A and B. The inclusion criteria are important because the indicate who this study refers to. The patient were scheduled for elective non-cardiac surgery and had either coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, or two risk factors: age greater than or equal to 65, hypertension, smoking, elevated cholesterol, or diabetes. These inclusion criteria are what you should be looking for when when considering a patient for BBAC, so pay attention!

Inclusion Criteria

bullet Scheduled for Elective Non-Cardiac Surgery
bullet Able to sign informed consent
bullet
Definite CAD (Previous MI, Typical Angina, Atypical Angina with ECG changes, or scintigraphic evidence of perfusion defect)
bullet Risk for CAD (Previous or current vascular surgery)
bullet

Risk for CAD: Two of following Risk factors)

  • Age > 65 years
  • Hypertension
  • Current Smoking
  • Serum cholesterol > 240 mg/dl
  • Diabetes Melitus
